The apps on my home screen are those that I use the most often. I like to keep the bottom row empty because I think it's more visually appealing and if I install a new app it's easy to find. Many of apps are self-explanatory like Maps and Mail and Facebook. - Podcaster allows me to download podcasts directly to my iPhone with a wireless internet. I love this. The old way of doing it - having to first download them using iTunes on my Mac and then syncing my iPhone to my Mac was terribly annoying and antiquated. I have recently started using Instacast instead of Podcaster. It's sleeker and less complicated but still gets the job done.
- Reeder is an elegant and fast interface to Google Reader which I use mostly to keep up with tech blogs - go techmeme.com and daringfireball.net.
- Instapaper allows me to save articles to read later that I find while browsing the web on my iMac, Thinkpad laptop, or Reeder on my iPad. It will save these articles on the iPhone so that I can read them while offline like on an airplane plus it strips out all the ads and unnecessary fanciness of webpages.
- Omnifocus is a very powerful and complete GTD implementation. In other words the nerdy nerds to do list. I have found the simple act of simply enumerating all of my responsibilities from calling clients to buying dog food to planning my daughter's birthday party a life saving and life creating experience.
